My Wife’s New Website

Well things have been moving along right smartly. My wife, Marianna, and I have been working on the website but she has felt left out somewhat and wanted to be able to do something. We decided that she needs a website as well and so I have spent some time this week building one for her. It has been interesting and I have learned a lot. It has accentuated what John Thornhill has really done for us because while his lessons are a pretty good road map I am now in uncharted waters to a degree.

I had no idea what to expect from the various vendors that we have been using but was pleasantly surprised. We had bought her name early on in this process so that was already taken care of. D9, our Hosting company was the next stop and I was fully expecting to pay for hosting another domain. By the way I highly recommend them. They informed me that I could simply add my wife’s domain to my current account for no additional charge aside from the cost of the domain itself. At the same time I was also able to point two additional domain names at my current site, also for no additional charge. They emailed me the relevant video links to show me how to do this. I have previously asked for support from these people and they have responded promptly both times and solved my problems. WOW!

Next were the graphics for her website. We had decided to use the same graphics but to change the name to hers in the header. I went to planet-divinity where I bought the initial graphics and submitted a request for another set of graphics with my wife’s name instead of mine. I was again pleasantly surprised when I received the graphics along with a refund and an explanation that I could have simply asked for a change of text. WOW again!

Finally I went to Aweber and by this time I knew the drill. I simply went back into my account and discovered that I could simply add my wife’s domain to my account and set up a list for her website. This time I was using John Thornhill’s video to guide me through the process. I also used his video’s for a variety of other tasks on her page. I cannot tell you what a relief it is to find people like these. I have been used to being fleeced for every single thing and getting no support at all. This alone is worth the price of admission!

While I had to figure out how to upload files to her website since this was not exactly covered it wasn’t too difficult to figure out. There was a folder buried inside my domain with her site and inside that folder was where I had to place everything. So for essentially nothing extra I have built her site and she is up and running here at Marianna Turner and learning right along with me. Since I had ordered her graphics and done some of the simple things earlier this week I was able to build this site in one day. Before I signed up for John Thornhill’s Master Class I would not have believed this possible and I have actually had classes in HTML… Until next time.

  1. Hi Gary, Nice post, and doesn`t it make a nice change to find that there are people who are genuinely willing to help and not just take your money and run. I`ve had a few technical problems myself and the support desk has been excellent, replying to my emails within hours and sometimes minutes……….even on sunday. now I`m going to take a look at your wifes website. Keep up the good work.
    Best Wishes

  2. Hi Gary, very interesting post, I have also been thinking of adding another website, great news about D9 I was fully expecting to have to pay again. What questions would I need to ask to allow me to do what you have done? was it just a simple request to add this to your existing webspace?
Great info keep up the good work.

    Hello Rob,

I simply asked what was necessary to do this and was sent a response with a link to a video showing how. All you do is buy your domain name and then make sure it is directed at D9 following John’s video if you are using 1and1 or other methods if using someone else for your domain name. I understood that we got a free domain name to be claimed later from D9 even though I haven’t used it yet. I have a number of domains with 1and1. Then you go to your cpanel attached to your domain through D9, that would be your website/cpanel and sign in. Go down to domains and click on addon domains and fill in your information. If you need help go back to your main page in your cpanel and click on video tutorials at the top of the page and find the tutorial titled addon domains. Of course D9 is always available if you need help. Hope this is clear and I look forward to crossing your path again.

  5. Hi Gary – most tasks on the internet are relatively easy – WHEN YOU KNOW HOW! But it can take ages to figure things out for yourself which is why John’s Masterclass is SO good with the easy to follow step-by-step videos. Have you been on the Forum yet? If you need any advice that hasn’t yet been covered by John, post it on the Forum and someone will answer it – its great!

  6. Sadly I did not know I could have a second domain name, bought another hosting package and now can’t get a refund because I linked it to a site builder. We all learn by our (expensive) mistakes! Great post, I hope everyone reads it before making my mistake.

    Enjoy the journey.

  7. Gary,

Great information on how you have gone through the process and the little things that you have learned.

It is true that the more that you do things, especially in this type of business, the better you get at them and then you can eventually pass that knowledge along to the readers of your blog.

Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more info like this from you.

  8. Enjoyed reading your bio Gary, and I have been trying to persuade my wife to do her own thing through a blog as well, so good lead.

    Good work on the flying.

    ciao JJ

  9. Thanks Gary! I’m mourning the fact that neither of us got our name as a domain. I’m debating snagging the .net versions. Keep going!

  10. Hi Gary, A lot of interesting posts on your website.
Has something happened on Marianna’s site, as she has not updated her post for a few months.
Good luck on the Masterclass course.

    Ray,

  11. hey, this is Irving Gradwell, just discovered your Post on google and i must say this blog is great.may I quote some of the Post found in your website to my local people?i am not sure and what you think?in either case,Thank you!

    Hello Irving,

Glad to hear you enjoyed the content. I have no problem with you quoting any of my posts as long as the quotes are reasonable size. If you want to do a whole post I would prefer you simply link from your site to that post. Google gives out penalties for duplicate content. Small quotes shouldn’t violate this rule but copying a whole post might. Again thanks for the kind words.

    Best regards,
